When alcohol calls the shots

A woman got drunk. Then she drove. And two lives collided on the Neponset River Bridge in Quincy, MA, on Aug. 23, 2008. The crash, which severed a motorcyclist’s leg, is painful evidence of an increasingly common trend: More and more women are getting arrested every year for driving drunk.

About 5.3 million American women abuse or are addicted to alcohol. This report tells the story of the Neponset River Bridge crash, and why so many women are driven to drink.
